Detailed Specs
Description
Turn any fiberglass pop-top, truck canopy, or hard-roof into a rock-solid base for Yakima®, Thule®, and other gutter-mount rack systems—without compromising strength or longevity. Designed by North Westy and made locally in the USA, these all-stainless false gutters deliver years of rust-free service and confidence under load.
Why you’ll love them
-
Built to last: Laser-cut from high-quality stainless steel with a matching stainless steel backing plate to spread loads across thin roof skins (fiberglass, aluminum, etc.) and prevent pull-through. This solves a common failure point on lighter tops.
-
Rack-system friendly: Creates true “rain-gutter” attachment points so you can run Yakima 1A Raingutter towers, Thule 300/387/953 Gutter Feet, and Rhino-Rack RL gutter-mount legs (use the feet appropriate to your crossbars). Competitors sell similar “artificial rain gutters” for these systems—this North Westy version is stainless and beefy.
-
Hardware included: Comes with stainless M6 carriage bolts and nylock flange nuts for a clean, tamper-resistant install that won’t shake loose on washboard roads.
-
Tie-down ready: Each horizontal tab includes M6 accessory holes—add M6 eyebolts for side anchors to secure awnings, ladders, Maxtrax, water carriers, or to hang camp gear.
-
Made in the USA: Designed and manufactured locally by North Westy for quality you can see and feel.

Fitment & use cases
-
Ideal for fiberglass pop-tops, truck canopies/camper shells, service caps, trailers, and other gutterless roofs.
-
Works as the mounting foundation for gutter-style towers/feet from major brands (choose towers that match your crossbars and load goals). For reference, Thule sells 542 “artificial raingutters,” Rhino-Rack offers 739A “false gutters,” and Yakima’s legacy “WideBody” bracket was a common solution—North Westy’s stainless design fills that same need with superior materials.
Installation notes
-
Position backing plates inside the roof skin to distribute load; seal all penetrations with a quality automotive sealant.
-
Verify the roof structure’s load capacity (vehicle/canopy manufacturer guidance) and the tower/foot and bar ratings of your rack brand; your safe payload is governed by the lowest-rated component. (Thule, Rhino-Rack, and Yakima outline these in their foot kit guides.)
Why North Westy’s version stands out
Many aftermarket “artificial gutters” use mild steel or omit reinforcement plates. North Westy’s are all-stainless with matching stainless backing plates, giving you corrosion resistance and a stronger, cleaner install—especially critical on fiberglass tops where load spread matters. (Similar products on the market stress this same use case, but few pair stainless with a dedicated reinforcing plate.)
Pro tip: Add M6 eyebolts to the accessory holes to create quick side tie-downs. They’re perfect for awnings, paddleboards, or securing recovery boards—no extra brackets required.
